New Farmers Department Store at 38 Elizabeth Street, Tauranga

October 20, 2022

The Bay of Plenty continues to grow and over the last few years we've been part of a number of significant construction projects that are helping shape the regions development.  One such project was Thirty Eight Elizabeth - which is New Zealand's largest development outside of Auckland.

A quick summary of key details:

  • $200 million development
  • 8,000sq metres of retail, on two levels
  • 5,380 concrete piles, stretching more than 70km in length
  • 340 car parks on five levels
  • 23 luxury townhouses and
  • 97 high-end apartments across 10 storeys and two towers

This entire complex will play a key role in revitalising downtown Tauranga with its mix of retail, dining and Iiving that has never been seen before in the city and is a first of its kind in New Zealand. Shop, Dine, Live accurately sum up what it's all about!

We're proud to have worked alongside Hawkins Construction over a 15-month period on this landmark development project.  The development includes car parking, a large Farmers Department store, apartments and luxury townhouses which have views over the Tauranga Harbour.  During this project we used over 2000 tonne of steel!

Farmers has a long history at the site of 38 Elizabeth Street Tauranga - it started in the 1970s when the original shopping development was built there. At the time it brought a modern retail edge to Tauranga. The new building heroically stands at the gateway to the city. This will be Farmers flagship store and covers two levels - accommodating beauty, fashion and family needs.

At the time of writing this blog the following were open to the public at Thirty Eight Elizabeth: Farmers, Whitcoulls, Pascoes the Jewellers, Picnicka and Subway, with more to come!
