Our Construction Involvement in Primary Industries

March 27, 2023

We’ve been servicing the Bay of Plenty and the rest of the North Island since 1987 and our work within the primary industries has always been important to us.

We’ve been fortunate to work with a number of sectors locally and further afield and have built long-standing relationships with our clients within these primary industries. Given the longevity of these relationships, we’ve often been involved in multiple projects with the same company as they build new structures and grow and expand.

Kiwifruit Industry

We have a strong connection with the horticultural sector, particularly the kiwifruit sector. Through the years we’ve worked with many of the local kiwifruit companies including Trevelyan’s, Seeka, Eastpack, MPAC and DMS. The Zespri head office in Mount Maunganui is a Jensen Steel project. We’ve built many packhouses and cool stores throughout theBay of Plenty, and are currently finishing off Project Opal in Tauriko for MPAC. This project sees us add an additional 650tonne of steel to their impressive state of the art kiwifruit grading and packing facility.

Dairy and Timber Plants

We’ve also been involved in the construction of large scale primary industry processing plants. Our work within the dairy industry includes building several dairy factories for Fonterra, plus we’ve worked with a number of other dairy producers on their projects. In addition, we’ve been involved in many projects within the forestry industry. We have contributed to many saw mills and pulp and paper processing plants, particularly around Rotorua and wider Eastern Bay of Plenty region.

Warehouses

Our work extends to building warehouses for those within the primary industries too. Examples include warehouse storage facilities for Ballance (Agri-Nutrients), as well as warehouses for feed storage such as for JSWAP in Matamata and locally here at Mount Maunganui.

Port of Tauranga

The Port of Tauranga is an incredibly busy place and has grown over the years. We’ve worked on a number of projects for the port including fabrication of their light towers (that measure 32m tall and weigh over 7 tonne each). We have been involved in the construction of many warehouse sheds around the Port area including Shed 16 which is primarily used for storage of paper products for export. Not only does the port have its own facilities, but it also provides a vital service for the primary industries and helps with the export of their products.

Ben Jensen, Financial Manager of Jensen Steel Fabricators says “The primary industries sector is not only important for our company, but also the wider community, with many people benefiting from what these sectors provide. We hold positive, long-standing relationships with many companies in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions that play a key role within the primary industries. We’re proud of the work our team does to support our clients within their sectors and never take for granted when they choose us, to be involved in such projects”.
