At Jensen Steel Fabricators, we take great pride in the role we play in shaping the infrastructure that supports New Zealand's growth. While the Bay of Plenty is where we’ve built our roots, the work we’ve had the privilege to be involved in, extends beyond the region - with steel construction projects that are not only significant to their local communities but also play a crucial part in the country's overall development.

One of our standout projects that epitomises this growth is the Tauhara Geothermal Project, a major undertaking for which we provided essential steelwork, with over 1000 tonne of steel being used. This project – a 168MV geothermal steam turbine power station located near Taupō, is part of New Zealand’s offering in sustainable energy, contributing to our nation’s energy mix for generations to come. Not only was it an incredible opportunity to showcase our expertise, but it was also recognised at the 2025 Structural Steel Excellence Awards, where it was named a finalist in the $3 million-plus category. Being part of such a great initiative was a real honour.
Beyond Tauhara, our work has spanned a diverse range of projects across New Zealand, each contributing to the betterment of local communities and industries. Some of these projects include:
Project Burgundy in Taupō: a new wood panel production and processing line, where we are providing over 1800 tonnes of steel for the energy plant, processing and forming line structures. This is an exciting project to be part of, providing regional and national significance.
The Velodrome in Cambridge: A state-of-the-art facility - National Cycling Centre of Excellence. This was a really unique project for us – and one that saw Jensen Steel Fabricators win the Steel Excellence Award in 2015 for projects over $3 million.
Huntly Power Station: A critical part of New Zealand's energy security, and a significant contributor to the supply of electricity and important ancillary services. This was another project of national significance and one of the bigger jobs Jensen Steel has been involved in.
Rotokawa Geothermal Power Station: This was Jensen Steel Fabricators’ first geothermal project and like Tauhara mentioned earlier is part of the Rotokawa Geothermal System just north of Taupo.
Timber Processing and Sawmills: we’ve been involved in a number of projects within the timber industry, providing steel solutions for various sawmills and processing plants, including those in Tokoroa, Kawerau, Rotorua and Whakatane.
Dairy factories in Edgecumbe, Tokoroa and Kawerau – the dairy industry is vital to local employment and New Zealand’s export economy and robust infrastructure is a key requirement for this sector. We’re proud to have played our part in this industry with the projects we’ve been involved in.
Health Facilities: Rotorua Hospital, Whakatane Hospital and more recently the Waikato Regional Renal Centre are some of the healthcare facilities projects that Jensen Steel Fabricators have been a part of.
Auckland Landmarks: Jensen Steel Fabricators were involved with both the Eden Park rebuild and the original Sky Tower and Sky City projects. Projects that millions of Kiwis and Tourists have used throughout the years and significant parts of the New Zealand landscape and economy.
These projects, from energy generation and sports infrastructure to timber processing and dairy factories, represent a vast range of sectors. For us, the work isn't just about steel - it's about the lasting impact these developments have on local communities, economies, and industries.
Being involved in such diverse, high-impact projects of regional and national significance is not only fulfilling for our team, but it also brings a sense of responsibility. At Jensen Steel Fabricators, we’re committed to delivering excellence in every project - large or small. We understand that the work we do impacts more than just the steel we shape; it’s about the communities we help build, the industries we support, and the future we’re contributing to.
As New Zealand continues to grow and evolve, we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing the highest quality steel solutions to projects that shape our nation’s future. We’re proud to have played a part in these major developments, and we look forward to the next opportunity to contribute to the ongoing success of such projects for the country.
