Winstone GIB Facility in Tauriko, Largest Contract to Date for Jensen Steel

May 26, 2022

Known to us as Project Basalt, this is Winstone Wallboards’ new factory and distribution centre located in Tauriko, which is on track to be producing GIB plaster board from mid 2023.

This project sees the largest contract we have undertaken to date, with over 4000tonne of steel used in the project. (In comparison, for the Mainfreight building we used 900 tonne of structural steel).

Our work on the project included large lattice truss farmed warehouses, office spaces and also the large milling tower where the mechanical plant is housed.

Once completed, the 12.7 hectare Tauriko development will be home to one of the largest plasterboard manufacturing facilities in Australasia. With 63,000sqm of buildings, the site will provide 1.5 times the manufacturing capacity of Winstone Wallboards’ existing Auckland plant with scope for further expansion.

The team at Jensen Steel Fabricators were proud to be involved in such an exciting project of national significance.
